Normana Wight was one of the first artists in Australia to incorporate photography in her prints. These silkscreen prints from the 70s were among her first.
Long a Rolling Stones and Cocker fan, Normans Wight produced a number of silkscreen prints of the rock scene and stars of the 1970s.
Camera to the ready, Wight was right in the thick of the screaming crowds at the Stones 1973 concert held at Melbourne’s Kooyong Tennis Centre.
Colours explode in these screen prints. The image’s shape in Untitled (Jagger/Microphone) and the front-on photograph of Jagger and microphone puts Wight and her camera in the centre of the screaming fans. Hands waving in rhythm to the pulsating music and the psychedelic colours bathing the scene create movement in these rock scenes bringing the 70s rock scene to life.
