[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ch’i responds to a journey Davis made to Guangzhou in 1995 to study traditional Chinese landscape painting on fans. The book extends the traditional compositional structures and the principles of Ch’i that the artist learnt in the Guangzhou studio into a digital environment. The six fan images were produced on a Macintosh computer from photographs that taken by the artist in China. The text pages explore similar themes through geometric compositions. CH’I is designed to be held fan-like in the hand, the pages then open forwards, toward the body.

Six fan images on 180 gsm Arches, six text configurations on 100gsm parchment. Bound in black buckram with red tail by master bookbinder Fred Pohlmann. Iris prints, laser prints.
27 x 15 x 1 cm. 15 pp + 2 blank pages. Edition of 10.
