[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ron McBurnie is based in the North Queensland city of Townsville. His work relates strongly to the tropical North Queensland environment. It also draws inspiration from an earlier tradition of British and European printmaking and painting.

The artist was born in Brisbane in 1957 and studied painting and printmaking at Queensland College of Art from 1975-1978. He lectured at Townsville College of TAFE From 1980-1985 and at James Cook University, Townsville from 1986-2014. In 2000 he completed a Master of Creative Art.

McBurnie’s exhibiting history is extensive with more than 30 solo and touring exhibitions and over 100 group exhibitions. He is a recipient of numerous awards and grants including the 1988 Fremantle Print Prize and the Australia Council studio at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris in 1991.

Artist-in-residencies include: Alayrac, France (2009/2011/2013); Carleton College Minnesota (2006); Frans Masereel Centrum, Belgium (2004/2011); six residencies at ANU Canberra since 2001; National Art School, Sydney (2010/2011); University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba; Somerville House, Brisbane and the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris.

The artist is represented in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, most Australian state galleries, many regional galleries and private collections.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
