[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Melbourne born artist Juli Haas produced mainly watercolours, artist’s books and limited edition prints using the drypoint printmaking technique.

Robert Nelson, Melbourne art critic, describes her watercolors as “..large and gorgeous (and) painted with a fine sense of caprice..” Haas portrays the darker side of human nature in an interior world filled with fantasy and absurdity. Her current theme -‘journeys in boats’ and ‘seas of dreams’- not only reflects current upheavals in her personal life but also comments on a troubled society. Each work describes a voyage, which not only links closely to personal observations of her world near and far but also the process of creating her art. The boat, a vessel for self, is carried on turbulent or calm seas, its cargo the weight of the past, present and future.

Sasha Grishin, author and reviewer, ‘Haas is an artist who, within the intricacy of her work and within its dazzling splendour, comments that below the façade lies a troubling reality.’

Haas exhibited in most states of Australia and participated in numerous group shows. She also exhibited internationally. She is represented in most major Australian collections including the National Gallery of Australia. A touring exhibition of prints entitled Interior Din traveled to Victorian regional galleries from 1992 to 1994 and Queensland regional galleries from 1995 to 1996.

Career highlights include winning the Sir John Sulman prize in 1995 at the Art Gallery of NSW and in 1994 and 1997 the Martin Hanson Memorial Works on Paper Prize. In 2008 her artist’s book A Wife Of Silver was acquired for the Public Art Collection of the Arts Centre Melbourne as part of the Maxwell and Merle Silver Bequest.

Internationally Haas participated in many exhibitions including The World Award Winners gallery in Poland, the London Artists’ Book Fair, the Cobra museum of Modern Art Amstelveen in the Netherlands, small format print exhibition in Chamalieres in France and mini print exhibitions in UK. Her work has been acquired for public and private collections in many countries including the USA, Germany, France and the UK. In 2005 She was invited to contribute to a portfolio honoring the sixtieth anniversary of Kathe Kollwitz, which was exhibited in and remains in the collection of the Kathe Kollwitz Museum in Berlin.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
